Yes, I have a passion for pearls! I got the amazing chance to sit for an interview with the Athens Magazine and, in the process, I made a great friend too! I am so proud of the article Andrea wrote about The Pearl Girls in the Athens Magazine last month. She seemed to be able to capture all of my passions… my passion for pearls, my passion for women, for connections and, of course for travel.
Pearl jewelry repair by The Pearl Girls!
No matter where you are in the world, we can provide your pearl jewelry repair. It is a concept we are pretty excited about. We have trained (and we continue training!) a team of amazingly talented women who repair pearl jewelry, string and knot pearls. But, here is the most important part… We are honored to take care of your treasured pearls.
Our decision to create our jewelry in the U.S.A., in Georgia, was not an easy one but it was the right one. In the final days of 2012 I decided that there was only one way I wanted to continue The Pearl Girls and that was by creating our jewelry here in the U.S.A. There is certainly a trend these days where manufacturers are really weighing the cost and benefit of creating their products in the U.S. and, let me tell you, the costs are more. There is no way around it.
In China, I hired women to create The Pearl Girls jewelry and paid them $1 per necklace! $1! That was the going rate. By creating our jewelry here in the U.S., we have to charge $3 per inch! The cost difference is huge!
The nice thing about running a micro (as in smaller than small) business is that we get to make these decisions because we get to weigh other factors. What are those other factors? Well, first, we get to offer jobs to women in our community! We get to train women and give them skills that they can use to get other jobs. We can truly oversee the creation of each piece of our jewelry and immediately fix anything that goes wrong! We get to make tiny six inch bracelets for women with tiny wrists and nine inch bracelets for women with large wrists. In other words, we get to offer women exactly what they want. And that makes us all happy!
And the greatest compliment of all came from a New York woman who shopped with us last week. She said, “They are made with love, I can tell.” She pointed out that she has a wealth of pearl buying options in New York City but when it came to buying pearls for her granddaughters, she chose us! Hooray! “I do not know what it is,” she told me, “These pearls have an aura about them that I have never seen in other pearls.”
Among all of the wonderful things we can offer our customers, it is the gift of creating jewelry we feel proud of. We love our pearls and we love our jobs and we are proud that our jewelry is Made in Georgia, with love!

Many people ask me how The Pearl Girls and our pearl travels began. It began, quite simply with a journey. A journey through Asia in 2006, to be exact, when my husband and I were waiting on his green card that would allow him to leave Canada and join me in the U.S.A. We went on a splendid four month trip through Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and India.
It was on this trip that I discovered gorgeous cultured pearls in exotic locations. I realized that these pearls represented everything I love about life: beautiful places, a sense of adventure, meaning and significance and a kinship with the ones we love. I think the last piece was key for me. I bought pearls on this trip but, up until this point, the only pearls I had were given to me by my Dad when I was eight years old. These pearls had always stood as a symbol of his love for me.
So, here I was in Asia among these gorgeous pearls and I just started buying them. I bought pearls for myself, for my mom, my sisters, aunts and even for my friends at the local Feed and Seed store. It seemed that many, many women were interested in these gorgeous gems.
I needed more, though. So, I returned to the U.S. and attended the Gemological Institute of American where I received my Graduate Pearls Diploma. I returned to China six times in 2007 to gain more experience and meet more contacts.
Since then, I have traveled through remote Chinese pearl farms and markets and through gorgeous South Sea Pearl farms in The Philippines. I have met with pearl farmers and divers of Tahitian Black pearls in French Polynesia. I have traveled through Japan and walked in the path of Mikimoto and other great Japanese pearlers. I have even investigated pearls here in U.S. waters. I have met one of the only men who has tried culturing pearls in the U.S. and I have many friends among the U.S. pearl divers in the Tennessee River. My mission is to continue traveling the world searching for gorgeous cultured pearls so everyone can experience a bit of the adventure, intrigue and passion of these exotic, hand-selected treasures.
In 2014, I launched a Pearl Adventure series to offer the truly adventurous a chance to come with me to exotic pearl farms! Our inaugural trip was such a blast that we have added even more trips!
The Pearl Girls has become the jewelry destination for people who truly care about where their pearls come from and who their pearls are going to. A lot of our customers are celebrating themselves and the ones they love. And we love celebrating with them. We all deserve the adventure, beauty, meaning and significance of The Pearl Girls pearls.

It is a question I hear all the time, what length pearl necklace should I buy? And when men call to buy necklaces for their loved ones, they really don’t have a clue! And the funny thing is, body size does not matter! Some petite women have large necks and some larger women have small necks.
So, after much brainstorming I have come up with the Pearl Necklace Sizing Chart based on crew neck sizes. Because, at one time or another, we have all thrown on a crew neck t-shirt! So, here I have devised a way to determine your necklace length based on your crew neck t-shirt size. This will take into consideration your comfort level with that crew neck collar. For example, even if you wear an XS/S, if the neck size bothers you, you may want to get a longer necklace. The TYPICAL length for crew neck t-shirts are as follows:
Extra Small/Small crew neck t-shirts have a neck size of 14 inches. If you wear an XS or S crew neck, we suggest you choose a necklace around 16 inches.
Medium crew neck shirts have a 15 inches neck. So, if you are comfortable in a Medium crew neck, choose a necklace 16 inches – 18 inches necklace.
Large crew neck shirts have a 16 inch collar. If you are comfortable in a large crew neck, we recommend a necklace 18 inches – 20 inches
Extra Large crew necks typically have a 17 inch inch collar meaning women comfortable in XL crew necks should choose a necklace 18 inches – 20 inches
And finally, Double XL (XXL) crew necks are 18 inches long. With these we suggest a 20 inch – 22 inch necklace
So, what size t-shirt do you wear and, more importantly, how do you like the feel of the collar? I personally wear a medium and the crew neck collar drives me crazy! I am always trying to stretch it out. So, I know that the 15 inch collar is way too small for me. I also know that I CAN wear a 16 inch necklace, but I don’t like it! I prefer the next size up, an 18 inch necklace.
Now, some women that wear a medium may think the crew neck fits them fine. So, all you have to decide is if you want a necklace that sits a bit higher on your necklace (just below where a crew neck t-shirt would fall on your neckline) or go longer with an 18 inch necklace.
Keep in mind, we offer our necklaces in even sizes. Prefer an odd size, great news, you are welcome to custom order any length!
